Horizontal lift in St. Petersburg metro
City: Saint-Petersburg.
There are 10 stations of enclosed-type in our metro, one of them is Mayakovskaya. These stations does not have open side platforms, there are walls with doors. Drivers need special skills to stop the train so that the car doors match the station doors. There’s a special device synchronizing time, precedence and speed of opening and closing car and station doors. Specialists call such stations “Horizontal lift”. хотя, конечно, я слышала, что обслуживание таких станций гораздо сложнее, чем у обычных: рассчитать, чтобы двери вагонов и станций совмещались, открывались в нужное время и пр.

Об этом заботится автоматика. На вагонах есть три лампочки (http://technomuseum.ru/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/IMG_7642.jpg -- тут справа сверху), одна из которых включается, когда открываются двери. В тоннеле есть светочувствительные элементы, которые как раз реагируют на включение этой лампы и открывают двери на станции.
