Just recently we could celebrate one remarkable date: 80 years ago in the night from 11 to 12 April 1931 in Isaakievskii cathedral Foucault’s pendulum, illustrating the Earth’s rotation, was swung for the first time. 7000 people watched this event. It was removed in 1986 when the cathedral came back to Christians. Now the bronze sphere rests in the storage of Cathedral’s cellar. The reason of pendulum removing is half engineer half theologic. The dove sculpture, symbolizing Holy Spirit, was replaced into the dome centre, where the pendulum used to be fixed. It’s not ethic and not serviceable to fix the pendulum to the sculpture, and there’s no other suitable place in the building.
