The sign on Angliyskaya Embankment says that this is the very place where the Cruiser Aurora fired a single shot from its bow gun on October 25, 1917, signaling the storming of the Winter Palace by the Bolsheviks.

Just in front of this sign, on the other bank of the river Neva there is another commemorative – more information can be found here: http://www.etovidel.net/sights/id/693.

Address: 42, Angliyskaya Embankment.

How to reach: on foot from metro station “Vasileostrovskaya” or “Nevsky prospect”.

— Более того, та "Аврора", что стоит на приколе, вовсе и не стреляла. Исторический выстрел сделал другой крейсер, который сейчас почти затоплен, где-то в районе Усть-Луги что ли (в Лен.области точно). А вообще есть мнение, что и выстрела-то не было...

Да, я бывал в районе Курголовского полуострова, мне местные дачники-жители рассказывали, что из воды торчит что-то типа корабля. Но я почему-то с трудом верю. Если кому-то пришло в голову старую Аврору не ремонтировать, а построить новую с нуля, то почему старую не распилили на металлолом, как поступают со всеми кораблями? Зачем ее куда-то тащить и там топить, но топить, заметьте, не полностью... Как будто глубину было не померить заранее. Странно это.

— Место вечной стоянки выбрано из соображений красоты. Конечно, оттуда выстрел не производился. Но он был! Не все знают, а их было три: два холостых и один боевой. Стреляли с "Авроры" - это бесспорно.
