Rather often one can meet eagle in different works of art as a symbol of power, pride, shrewdness, and even perfect eye sight. But in this case eagle is a symbol of an impregnable building – rock-house. This was V. Booksgevden’s profit house, built in 1912-1913, architect G. Khrjonstovsky.
Behind the beautiful phasade there’s a maze of through-passages yards and dark gateways. And the eagles on the phasade often suffer from the vandals, lately one of the birds lost its head – that was simply unscrewed. Before the war there used to be two more vases and two sculptures on the roof of the building, but after one of the bombings, they were hit by the air blast. Anyway, even without the lost items the building will attract you with its unique looks.
