A beautiful house with round bas-relief portraits of Russian writers. Its owner, publisher, V. S. Balashov, placed in this house his own printing office provided with lithography. In 1884, Balashov invited to the reconstruction of the house the civil engineer K. E. Geftler (also known as a landscape painter). Geftler rebuilt the old house, adapted it to meet the needs of book production, built a top floor and in the corner of the house built in a bay window. In the courtyard Geftler built an outbuilding. The composition was completed with a rich frieze with Griffons and ornaments. The house is interesting for the twenty-three bas-reliefs of Russian writers placed on its facade between the first and second floors.
