The ex-confectionery of Wolf and Beranger is inseparably associated with the name of A.S. Pushkin. It was the place where he called in on the way one hour before the fatal duel. This confectionery was a kind of literary club. T. Shevchenko and F. Dostoevsky, I. Panaev and N. Chernishevsky were frequent guests there. They not only ate pastries here, but also glanced over fresh issues of popular newspapers and magazines. It was a place where the new ideas for their literary works were originated.
Now the restaurant "Literaturnoe kafe" ("Literary café") is situated here. It continues the traditions of the literary-musical salon. Here verses and classic music sound every day. Among the informal sights it is recommended to see the fragment of granite steps, covered by glassy sarcophagus, through which the great poet entered the confectionery. Another informal sight is Pushkin himself (to be more precise, his wax double) sitting near the entrance, at the table close to a window.
