Next to Blagoveschensky bridge there is a building with unusual configuration – this is the Academy of Fine Arts on the Neva River (architects Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe, A. F. Kokorinov, Y. M. Felten, 1764-1788, classicism).
It is the world largest ROUND YARD (the composition is based on a circle inscribed in a rectangle). There lead 4 doors into the yard, above each of them there are plates with four main areas of the school activity: "Painting", "Sculpture", "Architecture" and "Upbringing". In 1807 there was installed a spare column for the interior of the Kazansky Cathedral (now the column is located in the Academic garden), in 1817 the column was replaced by a plaster model of the monument to Minin and Pozharsky.
In the spring of 1942 the Round yard and the Academic garden were rearranged into vegetable gardens, which saved many lives during the blockade.
In the center of the Round yard you can see a lonely statue. It is a sculpture of Count Shuvalov, founder of the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Moscow, by a well-known sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, (the current President of the Academy of Arts), who made the monument at his own expense. He presented it in May 2003 as a gift to the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.

— Двор удивительно красив.
Я, однажды проходя мимо, хотел посмотреть его поближе, но строгая женщина вахтер категорически не пустила и еще сказала, что в здании академии фотографировать категорически запрещено.
Пришлось посмотреть издалека ....

— Да, вахтеры, увы, не пускают. Говорят, что вход во двор возможен только с разрешения ректора.. не думаю, что его можно просто так получить)

— Это камерный хор «Россика» в ротонде АХ. Вроде бы исполняли итальянскую музыку эпохи Возрождения и барокко.

— Был сегодня в академии , красота))), двор закрыт , на него можно посмотреть только из окна , пускаю и не запрещают , только нужно вежливо попросить на вахте . Спасибо администраторам сайта , если бы не они , я бы может и никогда не увидел бы этой красоты.
