One can see fragments of unique cast-iron pavement on Penkovy bridge and Yakornaya square in Kronstadt. This pavement is probably the only one in the world. Cast-iron pavements were more comfortable and practical than cobble-stone ones, moreover, they were quite lasting, they don’t practically need a repair. In 1941 all cast-iron pavements were taken to pieces for the needs of defense industry. The excellent bodies for bombs, giving many shell-splinters, were made of remelted cast iron. At the time of reconstruction of Yakornaya square it was decided to recreate the unique pavement.

Address: Kronstadt, Yakornaya square along the fence of Petrovskoe Admiralteystvo and Penkoviy bridge on Obvodny Canal.

How to reach: use the minibus № 405 from "Chernaya Rechka" underground station.
