Saint-Petersburg is a city of lions, their statues are everywhere. They stare at us not only from bases but also from walls and roofs of buildings. Simple and winged, guard and not. By the way, I’ve heard how to distinguish a guard lion from a simple one. A guard lion never sleeps and leans on the sphere with one paw, if the lion falls asleep the sphere will roll and he’ll wake up. So, a pair of cute guard winged lions sits practically on the roof of a building facing Manezhnaya square. The building itself is very interesting, built in 1914-16, since 1917 there had been Splendid Palace cinema where in 1918 the first soviet movie “Uplotnenie” was presented. In 1948 there opened the cinema “Rodina”.
