The sign on Angliyskaya Embankment  says that this is the very place where the Cruiser Aurora fired a single shot  from its bow gun on October 25, 1917, signaling the storming of the Winter Palace by the Bolsheviks.

                    [comment] => Более того, та "Аврора", что стоит на приколе, вовсе и не стреляла. Исторический выстрел сделал другой крейсер, который сейчас почти затоплен, где-то в районе Усть-Луги что ли (в Лен.области точно). А вообще есть мнение, что и выстрела-то не было...

Да, я бывал в районе Курголовского полуострова, мне местные дачники-жители рассказывали, что из воды торчит что-то типа корабля. Но я почему-то с трудом верю. Если кому-то пришло в голову старую Аврору не ремонтировать, а построить новую с нуля, то почему старую не распилили на металлолом, как поступают со всеми кораблями? Зачем ее куда-то тащить и там топить, но топить, заметьте, не полностью... Как будто глубину было не померить заранее. Странно это.

                    [comment] => Место вечной стоянки выбрано из соображений красоты. Конечно, оттуда выстрел не производился. Но он был!  Не все знают, а их было три: два холостых и один боевой. Стреляли с "Авроры" - это бесспорно.
